"since then, the strike force, based on information they received from that group home, they decided to look at all the group homes owned by optihealth." the city inspected 12 other group homes-- all owned by optihealth. they found fire code violations at each property. "they did find evidence that residents had been locked inside their rooms." many of the group homes had bad smoke detectors... improper locks... even heaters that hadn't been inspected. "they discovered that one of the homes had a gas leak inside of it. they had to evacuate the home for two hours." each home was issued notices for minute thumbnail 05:02 pm each violation. while many of the problems have already been fixed... the city says optihealth needs to keep it up-- or face fines. "at this time, we don't think that's going to happen. optihealth has been working with the safe city strike force. we feel very confident that they are going to address all the issues that they were cited for in all 13 of their group homes." i called optihealth for a statement for this story-- but was told they had no comment. meanwhile, the safe city strike force will move forward-- and plans to work with the state to inspect every group home in the city.
